Quick and Easy Ways to Speed up your Computer.
Is your computer running a little slow? You can follow these quick tips to help system performance.
1) Disable things in your start up registry.
This one is pretty easy. The more things that start up when you computer starts up the slower is it going to be. The easiest way to stop see what is starting up when your computer starts up (assuming you are running windows XP) is to click the start button, then go to run. In the run box, type msconfig. Then from there a window should pop up. Go to the tab that says startup. You will probably see quite a few entries. Every thing that is checked is going to start up on startup. You can safely uncheck everything and windows will still boot fine. However if you have a firewall, anti virus, anti spam, or some other program that you want to start up on start up, do not uncheck the corresponding box. Things that are frequently there that can be unchecked include qttask, adobe gamma loader, msmsgs, adobe reader synchronizer, nvcpl, nwiz, jusched, and CThelper. If you see anything referencing NV, or zclient, probably leave it alone.
2)Get rid of spyware.
Download the free program spybot search and destroy. This program will find unwanted programs that keep tabs on where you go, what you do and show you annoying ads that can slow down your machine. You can get it here. http://www.spybot.info/en/mirrors/index.html. Run it, run the find problems thing, and then immunize your machine. Odds are it will find some stuff to get rid of.
3)Clean the registry.
The registry is a giant database windows keeps of all kinds of important stuff. However over time it gets messed up, and needs to be fixed up. Grab the free program regscrub xp (assuming you run Windows XP again) from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048 (just click one of the download mirrors) and download an install it. Click the button that says regscrub xp finds problems. When its done searching, click the button that says fix problems. There ya go.
4)Clean up old junk files.
All kinds of random files get put everywhere as your system gets used. Old files, backup files, temp files, junk files, all kinds of crap. The best way to clean it is with another free awesome utility. http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloadpage.aspx?1 This free program will finds all kind of problems, and is pretty easy to use. Again, just download and install. Click the button that says analyze, then run cleaner. Should fix a lot of stuff. Then you can click the issued button on the left side, and run that. There ya go, tons more stuff has been cleaned.
5) Uninstall old programs.
Using the control panel add remove programs tool you can uninstall old software you dont use anymore. You dont have to go uninstall happy and rip out everything, just junk you dont use anymore.
6) Defrag your hard drive.
Under start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter. Run that until your drive is mostly in the blue (youll see what I mean when you use it.)
There you go. Some easy ways to drastically improve machine performance. There are lots more ways you can squeeze more out of your machine, but they require more time, patience, and also has the risk of backfiring. Hope it helped.
