Q: I keep getting errors, expecially on members pages, whats up?
A: Well its probobly due to you using a firewall or blocking cookies, or both. You see this website has to write temporary information to both your computer and the server. This infomation is called session information. It doesn't reside in a file like most info, its just in the floating memory. If you firewall is blocking session information, which usually happens at high levels of security. As an alternative, the website detects if you are blocking session information and attempts to write the infomation it needs in temporary cookies, but you are blocking those also, the site has no way of passing information from page to page, like who is logged in, under what name and so on, so we get errors. I have done the best I can in trying to make the site flexable for all users and situations, but if you continue to get errors, try turning your firewall down a notch, and relogging in. That is really the best way to go. I swear, that my site does not use adware, spyware, or any other type of ware, nor am I interested in getting personal information from you, exept for for your profile. If you'll notice there are no ads on this site, and no active x controls, no unauthorized pop ups, or other random redirects and stuff. Everything on this site comes from me, and is clean, so it is okay to turn your firewall down a notch while at my site.
Q: Ugh, I just spent like a half hour writting a weblog/personal page/tutorial and I got an error! Did I just all the work for nothing?
A: Well, maybe.. if you still have that page on your screen, relogin, and click the back button that page, or something like that. Basically what has happened is that the site has terminated your session. That basically means that the time you logged in was a time long enough ago, that the memmory space the server had allocated to your account session has expired. The best way to say it is that the site had auto logged you out. Its not due to inactiviy like you might think. The site will probobly log you out every 35 minutes even if you type a hundered pages, and click a million links. That is just how long your login lasts. So if you can keep that error page on screen, and get back to where you entered your info, if the text is still there, you can relogin, and then resubmit the page and it should work. Sorry about that inconvience.
Q: Avatars and or personal profile pics don't show up, whats the deal with that?
A: Again this seems to be related to firewalls, and or ad blockers. Sometimes they think that the images on my site are ads, for reasons unknown to me. Your best bet is to turn down you ad blocking, or firewall.
Q: Can admins read my private weblogs?
A: Short of actually going into the database that holds them no. Currently there are only 4 admins, and only 2 with access to that database, and 0 who are really interested in your private logs. If it's marked private, I don't touch it, and soon I actually plan to encrypt it, to make sure it stays truly private.
Q: Can I be a site admin?
A: No.
Q: Will you sell my information such as email address?
A: Hell no, I run this site for fun, not for money. And I respect your privacy, so I am not gonna go around selling your info. your safe here.
Q: Why does your chatroom suck?
A: Because its a free chatroom I got from javaboutique, and I didn't code it. Its just some free peice of crap chat room that I picked up because I thought it was a good idea. It takes a long time to code your own chatroom and I do not posses the skills right now to code one myself, so until someone makes me a better one, or I code one, we are stuck with this... besides nobody uses it anyway.
Q: Why does the proxy page not work very well?
A: Because coding a good one is very very hard, much beyond my skills right now. I know it doesn't work very well, and that somethings can still track where you are going when using it. All I can say is that if it works for you great, if not, sorry. I currently have no plans to update it, because I don't know how.
Q: Why do some of the games made by Dingo run so wierd?
A: All his games are coded in Q-basic, using a loop, or subroutines. What this means, is that the code is running as fast as your computer will let it. Seeing as the games where coded on about a 500mhz pentium, the games work fine for Dingo because his processor can only run the games... at a reasonable speed. For those of us using slightly more advanced technology, the games run really fast. The good news is that he has found a way to stop this, and is starting to implement it. Plus, most old games run like that, go back and play some of your old favorite dos games, and watch how fast they go on todays PC's. Plus I'd like to see you codeanything better smarty pants... then upload it to me, casue I need more content for my site.
Q: Why is your site called Digital Swordsmen?
A: Because my originial idea for the site was for it to be all about swordfighting and swords and the like. However as time went on I got less interested in that, and I realized most others couldn't care less. So I started expanding and doing different things. Eventually swordsmanship and such has kinda been phased out... I mean I still like it and everything but I realized that I do not have the knowledge or the skill to try and be talking about swordsmanship. I am no pro, and I do not want to corrupt any newbies with mis infomation. So don't get me wrong, I love swords, it is just not right for me to try and talk and teach about things that I am not qualified to. Maybe in the future I'll be able to say more.
Q: What are .rar files?
A: These are called rar files. They are very much like zip files, but I like them a little bit better, just becasue I hate winzip. There is no real reason I use these, I guess just preference, that and the fact that the winrar software can do zip, and rar files, so its cool. All you need to be able to extract these is winrar, which you can download here.
Q: Why do you use both .zip and .rar files?
A: Because I don't run this website nearly as well as I should. I really should be using one or the other, but I am just to lazy to go change files that are already zipped/rared. In short, there really is no good answer, other than me being lazy.
Q: Why doesn't the site instant messanger work for me?
A: Odds are because you have javascript disabled. Javascript is a web language that is the backbone for the messanger feature. Some web protection services and such turn it off because if used improperly it could do some damage.. maybe. So check your internet settings and see if javascript is turned off, and if so turn it on. Also your firewall might be blocking the messages, I havn't seen that happen yet, but it is a possibility. Basically odds are some security feature is blocking the messages. So check your settings. If you need more help, email me.
Q: I notice your girlfriend and her brother are admins, but yet she doesn't do much, that's kinda unfair!
A: Shut up, I own this site and decide who is and isn't admin. You got a problem with that you call tell it to my boot when its stuck in your mouth.
Q: In fact I notice none of your admins except you and Dingo do stuff, WTF?!?!?!?!1111one11??!?!!!
A: Again, I kindly request that you keep to your own business. These people are admins because they are my trustworth friends who can watch the site while I'm away, or I just give em' admin cause I feel like it. Really not a big deal.
Q: How strong is that encrypt function?
A: Good question, it uses the MD5 standard, which is pretty good stuff. MD5 is standard for text encryption, and pretty widly accepted. There is no real weakness that I know of to that algorythem, so I wouldn't worry to much.
Q: I lost my password what do I do?
A: use the password reset function. All you gotta do is enter your answer to your secret question and then you can reset your password.
